Operations and Computer Components

Level:

3(grade 4 - 5)

Outcomes:

For children to be able to touch type information into a computer

Off computer based activities:

The children are given a sentence from the Splot Machine that appears in the libary to help children with their story writing. The sentance that is given to the class is

The energetic professor

wore a hat

deep within a time tunnel

The class has been working on a unit about time and it's time for them to do some creative writing. Therefore after being given the sentance they are asked to write a story using the sentance. They then have to edit their story and have it marked by the teacher. So that we can display their work the children have been asked to word process their story using the 'Creative Writer' program.

Computer based activities:

The children have to word process their story using the publishing package and their best touch typing skills. During the year the children have been working hard on their touch typing and now it's their chance to prove how well they can do it.

Classroom management:

Only one child on the computer at any one time

The students will have a class list up diplaying who's been on the computer and who's turn it is next

Each student has a tperiod of half an hour to work on the computer

Evaluation strategies:

How well can they use the program?

How long does it take each child to word process their document?

How many mistakes do they have within their document?
