LESSON PLANS

MICROSOFT WORKS 95

6. The objectives for the students using this package is to help them gain a basic knowledge to form the foundations for their further learning. Also the basic skills needed to operate the computer is the main learning objective and need to be displayed for this learning objective to be reached. The will also develop word processing skills and the ability to type on a conventional type writer.

7. The topic the students is related to storywriting. Off the computer the students will read a story book each and then report back to the whole class what their story was about. The whole class then select a character from each of the books and as a whole class write a sentence about each one. All of the sentences then get typed up on the computer to form one big book of class stories. Another activity off the computer is an art activity to paint or draw illustrations for each of the sentences about the characters.

8. On the computer each student can type up a sentence about the character and check their spelling. Any words that they spell wrong they will be able to practise off the computer. They can then print it out. The students can also experiment with different fonts and their sizes, plus use different justifications. e.g. left, right , centered.......

9. A roster will be used as strategy for classroom management, so as not to cause conflict by giving each student equal time. Students input into the making of the roster will help to ensure that it is used properly as they helped to create it.

To evaluate the students use of the package you can see how they have typed up the sentence, whether they have experimented with fonts and sizes, how they have justified it and whether the spell checker has been used. The time each student takes on the computer to the work that is produced, maybe some children need to be challenged more or others may still be struggling with grasping the basic concepts.
