Subject: Language-English
Grade: Kinder/prep.
NB. The objectives were taken from a list developed by the Education Department of Western Australia.
OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the students will be:
* Able to create a document that contains different fonts, styles and sizes.
* Able to print out the document.
* Able to use some of the functions contained in the program, independently.
* Able to build specific -interest, subject - related and vocabulary extension lists.
* Able to have access to correct spelling models.
NB: This program was selected as I felt it is designed for publishing. It
actually covered the KITOS objective for grade one/ two, but my activities are
aimed at the kinder/prep agegroup.
OFF-COMPUTER RELATED ACTIVITY:
Word Patterning
* Step 1 - The children make a large semi circle.
* Step 2 - Children are shown an unusual object. eg. old fashioned iron. They then get the opportunity to feel, smell etc the object.
* Step 3 - They have to yell out describing words that describe the object. The teacher writes them down on a large piece of paper in the middle of the semi - circle.
* This is then put up for all the children to see. They then go back to their desks and sought out the words into a sequence so that they sound good. They may need to add or leave out words.
* Step 4 - They then type their list into the computer. This step would be done over a period of time, so that the children had plenty of access and they could experiment with the functions. They would be given time when contract - type work was being completed.
* Step 5 - Using different fonts, sizes and styles etc. they have to try and
make the words look like they mean.
* Step 6 - The children print out their
work so that it can go on display.
EVALUATION
In the evaluation I would be looking at:
* How many functions they used.
* How much assistance they required.
* Whether they used appropriate fonts etc. to show the meaning of the word.
* Whether they used sound to see if the words were spelt correctly.
