Title: Simple text System requirements: Apple macintosh computer, mouse and keyboard. The computer will also need sound as this is a major part of the program(the program will work without volume but it complimented by it.)
Publisher:apple macintosh
2)
Value judgement: I think 'Simple Text' is an excellent program for young children who are just becoming familiar with the functions of publishing. Some functions include; different fonts, styles( bold italic etc.) and sizes.
Ease of Use: It is very suitable for
novice computer uses as it only has basic operations on it which keeps it simple
for those people who may feel daunted by computers. Even to get the program
started, it is easy because all that the user needs to do is select 'Simpletext
under the apple menu. This program would also be valuable for vision impaired
children as they would be able to hear what they have typed out.
3) As 'Simple Text' does not have a help menu or other such
functions, I would just allow the children time to explore all the options that
the program offers. Using the show balloons function under the help icon to show
them where the functions are. I would perhaps show them, if they were
unmotivated or unsure, what each word on the tool bar has to offer, briefly and
then let them work independently or in pairs to find out the rest. If children
are having trouble they can use the 'show balloons option from the help icon.
This program can not be altered by the teacher to change the content. However
the teacher may change the requirements for their work by focusing on different
aspects.
4) This program is designed for word processing. It contains some basic functions, however, what makes simple text appealing to young children is the fact that it contains sound. The children can get the computer to say what they have typed into it. They can choose which voice the computer uses by selecting one of the options from the voice function on the toolbar, under sound. Through this the children may learn some spelling as the computer says the words how they are spelt. The children can also print their work if they choose to. In page set up the children can change the paper from portrait to landscape as well. They can also change the sizes of the fonts, the styles of the fonts and the type of font used, whethr it be times new roman or other such fonts.

5) I used my friend's little brother who is in prep this year. He really liked the way the computer talked and found the program quite educational even though he has a computer at home. His computer at home only has games on it. I got him to type in some words and play around with the functions. As there was no purpose for the work he quickly got bored. However, he really liked the way the computer talked and had he been given a specific task he would have found it more fun.
