Outline :

This lesson is the start of the next three weeks of publishing lessons and is devoted to brainstorming ideas for publishing and later presenting the work the students will complete. Students will be asked to discuss Selena in her role of Sailor Moon and her friends, the Sailor Scouts. The children will reflect on the reasons for helping others. The reasons are why they (The characters) help for no reward and their cooperation as group members to achieve outcomes for 5 to 8 minutes. Teacher and class share the results and start to draft pages on paper for the books they will complete. Each student will construct a page in the book, including a cover for the book. Text will be kept to the level of the student.

The program will be set up on the hard drive with a shortcut icon on the screen for instant access to the program. Students will start with a simple page and with the draft as a guide, cut and paste their page. Text imput will be in a preset format imitating current lower primary school student standards by using "Lucida Handwriting Font" (available on Macintosh). This is then is saved on a student disc, later copied for inclusion into the class book, to a separate folder on the teachers computer. At the end the lesson students will have a question time as to where the story should go to for the next lesson.

When the class has later published the book, in the reflection period following. Students should reflect on all the work, their likes and dislikes and how the unit developed their understanding of the importance of cooperation and assistance to humans. Though keeping these concepts simple and at a level of understanding.

Teaching Implications :

~ A few children may not want to participate and these will be allocated other duties

~ All students input into the discussion should be valued as part of their cognitive development.

~ All children should have the chance to share ideas in the reflection period.

Evaluation Strategies :

Teachers can evaluate within this lesson the depth of the ideas produced in the reflection as well as the presentation of the ideas developed in this unit to the other classes. Assessment is also completed by the students because they can reflect on their own social development as well. The increase in helpful behaviour and questioning of why we help each other will show an understanding of the group model.
