ABOUT THE PACKAGE. The Grolier encyclopedia allows children to explore the world around them using the exciting technology of the computer. It involves colour, movement and sound which will capture their imagination and make learing a fun experience. This package has everything that you would wish to find in encylopedia books and with movement and sound it just makes it more fun. From Geography to Sport and then to history, animals etc this encyclopedia covers it all.
This package is very easy to use by the main input device for opperations being the mouse. Children can click on selected areas which are clearly marked and be greated with the colour animation and sound of the site they have choosen.
There are simple explainations in the help menu found at the top right hand corner of the screen. This package also allows children to type in a subject in which they are looking for by using the find tool in the edit menu. Children can also print out areas of the encyclopedia and use these at their desk for information while other students can use the computer.
When loading the C.D onto the computer you need to save it to the hard drive first. To do this you need to :
a)load the cd into the machine and open the first window. b) take the Grolier Package found in the window to the the hard drive by clicking and dragging and this will then save to the hard drive which you will be able to use. c) to open the programme now all you have to do is select the icon for the Grolier encyclopedia by clicking the mouse and openning the window.
This package can be used for grade three upwards as it does reqire children to read and type in the correct spelling when searching for a topic. However if the teacher was able to sit with the children and help them through the package it would be very useful in the younger grades (K-3) especially with the great graphics you can print out from it.
